You Never Knew

As this song plays,
I can positively
smell the autumn air
from a small
southern town – at a college,
of which I was
a non-student for a short time –
in and out of love,
searching, and hiding
things I’m still trying to find.
In went a serum,
and out came a darkness that

I think I rember that college, that feeling. The place where I met my wife and you lost yours. The afternoons spent hacking on instruments or trying to sell a guitar. I remember the after hours parties at Keith Street…the laughing, the conversation, and the rum and Coke being sprayed from noses.
I follow your sites and your music as often as I can becasue its just plain good and because it helps me remember a time when I didn’t think a better time could be had. Stay well.
I swear i thought the words to this song were, “strange ‘you left me’”. and even though now obviously i realize that is NOT what she is saying, i swear it still sounds like it. i’m sorry but it does… and now…i am having deja-vu… which means this little piece of Mazzy Star trivia has probably been pointed out to me before….
it was the same way with…”ain’t nothing gonna breaka my spine” song…for years…
That song always haunts me……
Not sure if it’s the lyrics, Hope’s voice or the atmospherics of the music…..or the combination but it struck me down the first time I heard it.
